Charles Watkins Jr.

Charles Watkins was a native of Long Island, NY where he began painting at a young age. He studied fine art in college and moved to Lake Tahoe where he spent his time painting the lake and the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains. In 2005 he moved to a 5-acre farm in the Willamette Valley of Oregon and now paints the views around him.

His work is inspired by the beauty of the Willamette Valley, the waterfalls, the nearby Cascade mountains, the endless rivers and the drama of the Oregon Coast. He likes experimenting with contrasting light values and the way that light changes around tumbling water. He keeps his camera by the door and is known to jump up and head out to photograph a particularly beautiful sunset on a moment’s notice.

Gall's Gallery

Gall’s Gallery was founded in 2021, but its roots run deep.

Deborah Gall has been sculpting with clay since the 1980s, developing a distinctive voice through hand-sculpted feminine forms that celebrate intuition, strength, and grace.

For five years, she has partnered with her daughter-in-law Jessica in a close creative collaboration, transforming their shared passion for raku into the heart of Gall’s Gallery.

Together, Deborah and Jessica create every piece as partners in a true family endeavor.

Deborah hand-sculpts each unique body—feminine forms, hearts, masks, and more—shaping the foundational forms on the wheel and at the sculpting table with no molds ever used.

She then passes each piece to Jessica, who intuitively carves, textures, and often imprints meaningful words, layering symbolism, spirit, and personal resonance into the work.

Every piece is one-of-a-kind.

The cycle of transformation continues in the fire.

Deborah and Jessica’s raku process brings copper-enriched glazes alive with stunning iridescent metallic copper flashes, while clear crackle glazes capture dramatic smoke patterns.

Their husbands and sons—John, Pete (Jessica’s husband), and Shayne—pull the glowing pieces from the 1800-degree kiln and place them into reduction cans, completing the alchemy with care and strength.

At Gall’s Gallery, art is a living conversation between generations, intuition, and fire.

Clay, Fire, and Crystals is more than a tagline—it is the essence of our family ritual and shared vision.

From our hands, through flame and smoke, to yours.

ReFramed

Developing flexibility for the mind.

Changes in our lives and society encourage us to reframe our

attitudes and actions. Staying open, continuing to listen, observe, and

learn, encourages growth and creative development.

This exhibit includes samples from Deborah Sorem’s work,

demonstrating how she has reframed her fabric art over the past two

decades.

After retirement, Deborah and her husband severed a lifetime spent in

Minnesota to move to Oregon. They enjoyed their hobbies and

watching their granddaughters grow up in Salem.

Deborah started creating colorful fabric with dyes and designing wall

art in juried shows. She developed an independent, eclectic

apprentice curriculum to meet her interests. This included studying art

principles and design, viewing the works of traditional and modern

painters, and taking classes from fabric artists in surface design

techniques for fabric art.

This creative and focused curriculum balanced her previous formal

education and practical work experience in science and management.

She welcomes you to her inner world and hopes it invites a

conversation in your head and heart.
